I think you should evaluate window solar gain, by the solar heat gain 
coefficient.  Windows with similar R-values can have greatly different 
SHGC values.  (look up hard coat lo-e)  That said, using different 
windows on the south for increased solar gain is a great idea 
(especially with night time insulation).
