Admitting that I haven't followed this conversation  in any detail, 
we did an in-house 'ofuro', the Japanese equivalent of a hot tub by 
using a metal horse tank (@$100) which sides and bottom we well 
insulated and then surrounded by planed cypress fencing.  Poked a 
hole in the bottom for the drain and plumbed a good faucet above 
it.   Would work wonderfully after a long day of winter chain-sawing 
if we could find a nicely-sloped-soft something or other against 
which to lean when we use it.  Ferro cement was considered, as also 
for the cistern, but let go after we thought about the work involved.   Sacie
