[Greenbuilding] marble plaster

I haven't used tadelakt plasters personally, but have used venetian
or marble dust plasters. Nice stuff for sure, but rather pricey. I
think when I used it a few years ago on a straw bale house, it was
$500/5 gallon pail. That's CDN, which well works out about square
nowadays.

You can make your own for a significantly smaller amount. Find a
mason or quarry and get some marble plaster and pour it into a lime
plaster. The Natural Plaster Book is a nice one as well for stuff
like that. It's a burnished finish that looks stunning when done
right, but it'll kill you to apply. It's way harder than any other
finish due to the burnishing. Worth it though if you have the muscles.

Home Hardware in Canada now sells a Ventian Plaster, which is a
synthetic, and for that reason I don't recommend it. However the
company that makes the product also carries a natural venetian
plaster. This stuff is tintable as well right from the hardware
store. Beauti-Tone is HH's brand name and I'm sorry but I can't
remember the name of the supplier. A google search and a phone call
to them would give you a supplier. They also made an organic paint
stripper that worked not too bad as well.

The straw bale list will surely yield a heap of responses as well.
