Back east in Northern Va where I used to live, metal roofs are part
of both the old and new landscape. These roofs are the traditional
ones of the old south. Today, standing seam roofs, as they are
traditionally made, are the longest lasting and while rather pricey
are lovely. Certainly they would last beyond the average homeowner's
mortgage and beyond. Out here in NE Kansas they have been slow to be
used for residential building, probably because of the barn stigma,
but we see them in increasing numbers, though still mostly on
commercial buildings.

I wouldn't consider anything else. You need to find someone who is
experienced in making them however.

There are other metal roofs that look like standing seam that any
handy homeowner who doesn't mind heights could build. Sacie
