The Last Straw journal was first published in 1993 and has been
the published record of the revival and development of strawbale
and natural building since then. The issues are packed with
information from owner/builders, architects, builders and many
others who are actually involved in the planning, design,
construction as well as research and testing, teaching and
sharing information about every aspect - from site selection and
building placement to design concepts and details of
construction. Strawbale, cob, straw/clay, papercrete, plasters,
and all kinds and types of natural building materials and
methods are covered.
Articles and technical information are also shared about every
aspect of building sustainably including renewable energy, water
conservation and management, materials and products.
Information about codes and regulations, insurance and
financing, tech tips, along with reviews of books, CD/DVDs, and
products.
A searchable CD is available for the bargain price of $40 of
issues 1 through 40 (1993 through 2003). Back issues of all
issues are available as well ($8 each plus shipping/handling).
Subscriptions (4 issues) can be ordered for print version ($32
US and Canada, $36 other countries) - and now you have the
option of subscribing for the electronic online version ( 4 issues
$24).
The annual resource guide is now being updated for publishing
later this year; it is posted and continuously updated on the TLS
web site www.thelaststraw.org. An extensive bibliography of all
types of resources including books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and
journals worldwide; natural building products, materials and
sources; education, training and resource centers; Human
Resource List (people who can help you with your project); and
much more!
