to steel roof contractors were out today. and a third person i didn't
expect:
1. a likable guy would would do an exposed fastener system and wants
to just put on new sheathing for the overhangs and blow in insulation
in the attic. before the roof went on. However, he wants to blow in
fiberglass and doesn't like cellulous because it settles. i told him
it increases in R value when compressed, but he said that pockets
develop as well, or that it pulls away from framing lumber.
EXPOSED FASTENERS ARE GOOD FOR A WOODSHED, NOT A HOUSE
2. a slick saleslady who didn't know much of the technical info--but
the roof is made by firestone and is a concealed fastener product.
WHO CAN SAY?
3. sent out by the second person, this guy meets the adjuster and
gets every penny out of him for you. then he takes a cut of the
roofing job if you go with the company. He was slick, but seemed to
know is stuff. But he said i would have to blow in the insulation
from the inside--definitely not by preference--as it is a messy job
and you can't see where it's going.
bLOWING FROM INSIDE WILL KEEP IT OFF THE NEIGHBOR'S LAWN ON A WINDY DAY...
