[Greenbuilding] [BULK] metal roof sheathing, fastening, and noise

My metal roof is not noisy when it rains. I have R-60 in the attic, which helps. My old farmhouse had zip for insulation in the attic, and I could hear the rain on the metal, and it was always very pleasant to hear. If you require an absolute quiet tomb to sleep, don't get a metal roof, but most people will not find it objectionable at all, or even enjoy it.
You will probably know if there is a hailstorm, however. Good thing is they don't come along very often.
Make sure he frames those overhangs, not just let the sheathing and roof hang over. Anything more than 4 inches without support is, IMHO, asking for trouble.

The guy i will probably use plans to sheath over the existing
sheathing, then overhang the second layer by 18 inches or so to give
me my overhangs.
i suppose the double layer will be a good thing if i go with an
exposed fastener roof. Also, do you al think this method over
overhanging will be ok? it seems to be it would drop unless it is
framed back to the wall
Secondly--a guy today said he would never go with a metal roof
because they are too noisy when it rains. since I will have two
layers of sheathing and good insulation, i don't think it will be an
issue. What do you think?
I really don't think i can afford a concealed fastener high-tech
paint roof. is a standard corrugated pole-barn roof better than
asphalt? It's only 25% more.
The high tech roof is probably at least twice the price.
Last question--what ever happened to the recycled carpet sheathing i
saw in home depot 2 years ago. any "green" alternatives to plywood or
osb?
