[Greenbuilding] Paint and copper

Hi all:

I have exterior paint peeling off badly just on one small area of an outside wall.

The only thing I can think of as a cause is that the water that gets on that portion of the wall is splashed 
off a copper rain chain that I put there in place of a regular downspout.

Does anyone know if that small exposure to copper could affect the rainwater so it affects the paint?  If 
so, is there any paint that I could use which won't be affected?

If not, I guess it was just a rotten paint job at that point, and I'll try to do better next time.
