[Greenbuilding] Energy and the Internet

I honestly don't see a realistic correlation, but I usually trim my messages
anyway. I have worked in the IT industry for about 10 years and if you
really want to help save internet related energy then:
1). Don't open spam.
2). Don't open attachments, unless you personally know the person you are
receiving the message from and know that they are sending you an attachment.
3). Keep your antivirus and antispyware up to date.
4). Be aware of what sites you visit. Redirects can hijack you to infected
or phishing sites.
A majority of internet traffic today is spam related, and removing that from
the equation would decrease energy use dramatically. Most spam traffic
comes from infected or zombie computers that have been infected and
compromised and are being used by spammers to send their garbage.
End of rant.
