hello all,

a new subscriber here, starting off with consumer-oriented Qs. if this 
is better directed elsewhere, please advise.

first, in an attempt to reduce residential GHG and energy costs, i am 
actively considering a pellet fireplace insert to supplement the main 
natural gas heating furnace.  from what i can find on the internet, the 
cost-effectiveness of such a costly purchase is an iffy proposition.  
similarly, a gas-insert might be as energy-efficient.  any opinions?

second, are there any tax-incentives - federal or state (MA) - to 
support such a purchase?

i'd appreciate any useful guidance or opinions.
