This is the first December in years (decades ?) that we've gotten any
appreciable amount of snow here (ie disappointing California-like
winters) and as a result of some tough going while cutting across some
fields today(ie sinking up to my knees) I got to thinking about the
possibilities of putting a snowmobile-like track and skis onto the bike to
make traversing deep snow easier.

It appears that someone else was thinking the same thing :
(warning: It appears that the link below only likes MSIE browser -- Opera
and Firefox not so much)

The rear track assembly and front ski mount onto your bike in a matter of
minutes (if not seconds) if the bike has quick-release wheels and seat.

With this set-up, it looks like a person would be able to travel over deep
snow that would make an SUV curl up in a corner in fright.

And for balmier weather, what about this gizmo ?

( I like the looks of the thing, except for the electric motor part.)

And now, back to your regularly-scheduled GB talk.
