[Greenbuilding] Energy Modeling

You could try Retscreen www.retscreen.net This was
designed by Natural Resources Canada and has building energy modeling
in it. From residential to commercial to (in it's original
incarnation) a renewable energy technology modelling (R.E.T.) It now
has financial payback calcs in it and heaps of really neat stuff. All
free thanks to my tax dollars (your welcome). The newest version (4)
literally just came out, so it's fresh and flashy, so to speak. I
really like what I've seen and I'm going to teach myself it over the
holidays (heaps of online manuals and templates and samples)

Natural Resources Canada has some other programs such as HOT 2000, and
HOT XP, which are used by energy auditors here in Canada for
residential modeling with blower door testing. (HERS auditors in the
US). The basic program is free and along with others can be found
here. You need a license to get the Energuide rating version.

Login is required, but it's easy.

There are also window energy modeling and other neat programs on this
page. It's certainly worth playing around with over the holidays with
some down time. Unfortunately they don't offer any descriptions on the
site, so I can't help you too much. HOT 2000 is what is being used
now. The EE4 is for commercial and still has some applications. The
others I can't say.

That should keep you busy for some time.
