8. Energy Modeling (RH Irving Co Inc.)
Energy Gauge and HEED were new to me in the email trail I saw on energy
modeling, but here is a list of software we found in researching for our
upcoming Green Building Industry Resource Guide. I welcome all suggestions
and comments for making this list stronger, and I hope some of these
listings can help those who were looking! Feel free to get in touch if you
need information sources or want to edit and make sure we aren't missing
resources or categories in this guide (we will miss on educational programs
and top books and articles for our Jan 15th launch, but we plan to update
our info all of the time - and we know we will never be done!). We love
suggestions and edits..

ENERGY-10T
http://www.sbicouncil.org/store/index.php
Presented by: Sustainable Building Industry Council
ENERGY-10T is a software tool that helps architects, builders, and engineers
quickly identify the most cost-effective, energy-saving measures to take in
designing a low-energy building. The simulation software is suitable for
examining small commercial and residential buildings that are characterized
by one, or two thermal zones (generally less than 10,000 ft2.) The software
allows for calculations with Photovoltaic and Solar Domestic Hot Water
systems.
eQuest
http://www.doe2.com/equest/
Presented by: James J. Hirsch
eQUESTR is a sophisticated, yet easy to use, freeware building energy use
analysis tool that provides professional-level results with an affordable
level of effort. eQUEST was designed to allow the user to perform detailed
comparative analysis of building designs and technologies by applying
sophisticated building energy use simulation techniques but without
requiring extensive experience in the "art" of building performance
modeling.
HOMER
https://analysis.nrel.gov/homer/
Presented by: National Renewable Energy Laboratory
HOMER is a computer model that simplifies the task of evaluating design
options for both off-grid and grid-connected power systems for remote,
stand-alone and distributed generation (DG) applications. HOMER models both
conventional and renewable energy technologies.
REM/Rate Home Energy Rating Tool
http://www.archenergy.com/products/rem/rem_rate/
Presented by: Architectural Energy Corporation
REM/RateT is user-friendly, yet highly sophisticated, residential energy
analysis, code compliance and rating software developed specifically for the
needs of HERS providers. The software calculates heating, cooling, hot
water, lighting, and appliance energy loads, consumption and costs for new
and existing single and multi-family homes. Climate data are available for
cities and towns throughout North America.
REScheck and COMcheck
http://www.energycodes.gov/compliance_tools.stm
Presented by: U.S. Department of Energy
DOE provides support for various energy codes by developing compliance tools
that simplify the compliance process. You may demonstrate compliance for
both residential and commercial buildings using the software or pencil and
paper.
RETScreen International
http://www.retscreen.net/ang/home.php
Presented by: CANMET Energy Technology Centre
The RETScreen International Clean Energy Project Analysis Software is a
decision support tool. The software, provided free-of-charge, can be used
worldwide to evaluate the energy production and savings, life-cycle costs,
emission reductions, financial viability and risk for various types of
energy efficient and renewable energy technologies (RETs).
