I'm in the same boat - I'm installing bamboo flooring this weekend,
purchased just before my question started this whole thread. For a while
I was feeling like I'd made a mistake with the whole bamboo flooring
thing.  Green building is a process, with shades, and the best we can do
is move in the right direction, there are no absolutes.  I am still
convinced that there are many positive aspects to Bamboo, and we should
be experimenting with it enough that a US market develops and matures
into US production.  Bamboo is a unique building material, and I'll keep
working with it.

This thread is very interesting and timely for me, since we will be
remodeling our home this spring and plan to install bamboo flooring.
One
thing that I have taken from this and a few other discussions is --- be
as
green as you are able.  We are still going to put bamboo in our home,
but we
will be more careful in choosing who we purchase it from.  We cannot
purchase everything we need locally, and even if we could I don't know
if we
would.  We will continue to look at new, energy efficient and
sustainable
materials, but we will also be painfully aware of how empty our
pocketbook
is.
