Mary,
The issue of scale that you raised is an interesting one. We installed a
GFX-Star60 earlier last year and we did consider this issue as well as
many others. We thought of the scale issue as "when will this unit save
enough energy to offset the energy/resources expended to
produce/transport and install it". I realize that a unit installed in
the home setting may take longer to offset the energy/resources expended
in it's manufacture, etc. than a unit installed in a
commercial/industrial setting, however, we, two adults and one child,
without any excessive hot water usage, have already made significant
inroads into this expenditure as a result of the energy that the unit
has saved us. Indeed, homes well built, will be in existence for some
time and over that time the potential for savings increases. I am
confident that long after our unit has "paid itself off" so to speak,
subsequent owners of our home will be happily reaping the rewards of
it's continued savings.
Best wishes,
Mary Mulderrig.
