[Greenbuilding] Build green or bank the difference?

 Hello list! I would like to say something here to those...including my father, a retired stick builder....about the bank the difference for interest mentality. For those of us planning our retirement home, it is most important to plan cost savings for our retirement years. I would rather take my profits from the bigger home and invest it in a new building that uses natural light, better insulation than what code says (minimum) and watch my savings stay saved and my quality of life remain higher as everyone else pays higher energy fees. I can then enjoy other things with what I have prepared for instead of just planning my profits to be my giant nest egg.
 The world will go on and more cost is what my history has taught me. My interest profit can fall but my heat and light can remain at zero if I am smart.
