[Greenbuilding] Competent builder; was Re: Refurbish or Replace

What do you mean, specifically, by "homework".  What should a person
look for in a builder and how should they verify that he/she is
competent?  This is where I'm stuck right now.

There is no one in my area who is "known" for green building.  I have
these choices that I know about:





Where do you live? My bet is there is probably somebody around there who
would be right. Maybe just doesn't advertise and only builds a  house or two
per year, so stays under the radar of many of the architects. Someone who
can do "Anything you tell them to" is not a very attractive option.

You might try asking at the lumberyard as to who is special ordering weird
materials. People at the contractor's desk may know a lot of different
builders. Don't just try the kids out front.
