    FUD = Fear Uncertainty Doubt. 

It is used to describe the erroneous, misguided, speculative (with a 
hint of cynicism), cautionary or brow-beating statements that you hear 
one competitor say about another.  It is used quite frequently by The 
Inquirer (www.theinquirer.net).  I don't know if they originated the 
term or not.  (This is NOT the newsstand yellow press rag, but an online 
IT industry news site.)
