[Greenbuilding] Bostich Hurriquake Fasteners (Nails...)

I'll bite at the math:
nail spacing at 2" is 6 nails per running foot on the edge, total of 144
nails per sheet
assume 12" nailing in the field, add another 18
total of 162 nails per sheet
rectangle 50 x 40 = 2000sf
45 sheets of plywood
45 x 162 = 7290 nails
So I agree that they are certainly in the ball park about the number,
just wondering about the price. Our nails were bought by the 50lb box,
which contains 4200 nails. So call it two boxes, retail $170. I'm sure
that the complexities of our design necessitated the extra box.
Of course, even after all this, adding another $100 or even $1000 to the
cost of a house is practically negligible if the fasteners do what they
say. Looks like great technology if it is useful. The only thing that
worries me is extracting them after the occasional inevitable slip-up.
If it takes a worker 2 minutes to extract a nail rather than 10 seconds
it can add up quickly, especially if the material gets chewed up in the
process and needs to be replaced.
NIBBLING further at the math: I wish my crew could remove an 8d nail every
10 seconds when we screw up. We had a delivery of a new type of OSB which
buckled before we could get it covered with Tyvek. It took one worker 2 days
to rework about 16 sheets. Naturally, all were on the second floor. ;-) So I
think that the extra extraction time might not be so bad. Most extractions
are shiners, so they are probably not that hard to remove.
