[Greenbuilding] [BULK] Lauan panel

I have noticed exactly two things in Lowes that might have FSC
certified - one was a door that prominently displayed a label on the
packaging, the other was a lauan panel, like you saw, that just had the
letters FSC on the SKU label. I was really suspicious - what did that
mean? Was it from Forest Searing Company? Or FSC Certified wood? No
telling.

About two years ago HD and Lowes both made commitments to carry FSC
certified products, I wonder if they carried this through or if it was
just hype? I also have gotten no where asking about FSC certified wood,
even with contractors that should know about it.

Just thought I'd mention that I bought FSC certified lauan panel from
Lowe's in Tyler, TX for $9.95/ 4x8 sheet. It may not be the perfect
solution, but at least it is something readily available to average
consumers. I called Home Depot on Tyler to see if they had it and they
did not (they guy I spoke to did not know what FSC was either); but it
is interesting to note that their panel cost the same as the FSC one.
Kudos to Lowe's! Now, if they will only label FSC lumber next to the
SKU labels!
