Maybe you could try drying on the clothes line then
remove the allergens by putting the clothes in the
dryer on tumble with no heat.

I just moved into a home with many of the appliances
in the 15 year old range, with the exception of the
fridge and dishwasher(now a drying rack) which are
more  like 8 years old.  We ultimately decided to keep
everything except the hot water heater and furnace. 
The appliances aren't pretty and probably not too
efficient, but we just couldn't bear to toss things in
working order.  

If you do end up replacing them, may I suggest
freecycle.org instead of disposal.  We gave away an
18year old washer to a very happy young couple.
