Amid the interesting calculations about solar tubs, an alternative is the
Snorkel Tub, which comes with free heat if you have the wood which goes into
a submerged aluminum stove that sits in the water. Years ago we put
together one while we were building a cabin in the corner of Virginia near
Harper's Ferry. It was our only source of hot water during those months of
construction. Once heated, it was easily kept at 104 degrees and ready for
submerging at the end of long, often pretty cool days, as we moved toward
the end of the year. Washing ourselves Japanese style before using it, we
would climb in to look up to mostly star lit nights but even in the rain it
was fantastic; I remember it felt totally heavenly. We could hardly drag
our warmed bodies to bed and deep sleep before another start of a another
day. Sacie
