[Greenbuilding] Insulated window covers

Hello everyone,

I had the great pleasure of doing an environmental inspection on a
local 1966 house built by a local architect and his wife that was
wonderfully passive solar, light, airy and well thought out and
interestingly laid out. They had handmade all the north side
insulated window covers. They were just strapping and burlap over
some sort of insulated panel. They hung them on a track over the
window and put hinges on each of the panels so it folded up rather
neat when the window was open. She used different coloured burlap to
make it look interesting.

I don't know whether I can post pictures on this listserve, so I
haven't, but if my description doesn't make any sense to you and you
want to see them, I'll send you a photo, either on this list or off.
Just let me know.

This house was a treat as it showed that there were some great minds
working on their own with no support back before all of this and us
(ok maybe some of you have been at it that long) and it's both
inspiring and frustrating to see such interesting thoughtful designs,
yet still we are not the norm in the industry.

Stephen
