Years ago, quite possibly before some of the current listmembers were
born, the former engineering/architecture/const. firm of
Allen-Drerup-White did a superinsulation retrofit of a frame home where
they attached 2x3 stand-offs to the exterior using sheet metal clips and
from which they hung 2x3 curtain wall studs to carry the new sheathing,
siding & windows etc.

I forget how thick the new outsulation cavity was but I'm pretty sure that
it was at least 300 mm. if not more.

They anticipated settlement of the cellulose so they designed the exterior
cladding with a cornice board that could be removed to enable inspection
and topping up of the blown-in cellulose years down the road.

They also "pre-settled" the cellulose by vibrating (actually, more like
bashing it senseless) the sheathing immediately after the insulation was
blown in and then topping it up again.
