[Greenbuilding] Solar shades

It's not the bamboo which will fail, it's the string holding the strips 
which will
break down.
I saw a 1923 picture of a NYC brownstone showing louvered shades above
the windows. Just imagine a classic late 19th cent. awning made up of
6 or 8 horizontal louvers, it shaded the window without blocking too 
much
light or catching too much wind.
