I have an attatched sunspace, and use a fan to bring the warm air in.
My bills are not zero, but they are 1/3 what they were previously
(and they include all my non-heat energy use, which hasn't changed
much). I definitely use the backup heaters a lot in Dec. & Jan., but
very little in fall & spring. I'm in Eugene, OR. I could imagine a
zero-energy-for-heaters house here, if doors & windows were tighter &
fewer, a non-tankless h2o heater (cheating), more cooking
indoors...but that's also considering that for the local culture 70
degrees in winter is an inappropriate goal. We just don't keep our
houses that hot even if we aren't "green"!
