This business about "wasting" water that is not yet hot is in my view
only sort of true. When the incoming water temperature is very cold
(in the winter around here) I am reluctant to use it to brush my
teeth. This is true. But for most other uses and times of year, I just
use the stuff as it comes out of the faucet, and, you know, after a
short while it gets warm. It may be annoying that it isn't instantly
hot--and the D'Mand system, though expensive, is very clever--but it
isn't strictly or necessarily true that all that water is wasted. Some
people have even been known to get in the habit of collecting the
not-yet-hot water from the bathroom sink in a pitcher with which to
then flush the toilet.
