Poorly designed and built house and heating system;
Sloppy insulation installation +
Leaky house +
Low efficiency furnace +
Leaky ducts +
Poorly insulated ducts +
Ducts in vented crawlspace or attic +
=$3000/yr to heat in Santa Cruz California
I'd say in your case it adds up to $3000!
