David Korten's first book When Corporations Rule the World was an excellent
expose on the sins of Corporate Conglomerate Capitalism. However, his
follow-up books in which he tries to lay out an alternative were/are very
weak. The greatest merit to Shuman's work was probably the example that he
gave concerning the municipal ownership of the Green Bay Packer football
team.
Before and after reading these books, I have been working on enunciating an
alternative.
You can find it at:

It's very concise
and I offer it to thee all free of charge.
Please share it with others.

This is a very interesting piece of politics disguised as green building. I'm not into discussing the political side of green building, but I do believe you might need a reality check. Yes, we are all part of this Group because WE want to make things better...in our own opinion the World needs to get better. Others think things are fine as they are. Have you taken the time to chat with teens and young adults lately? Young, heck, who am I kidding? There's those that are in the 30 - 40 year old range with the same personality, mentality, outlook as the younger generations.
Those of us banding together to accomplish the "live easier on the Earth" principle are growing in number. But until the attitude of the masses is redirected from an early age, I don't see any great change coming in the near future. Folks today are self-centered, egotistical, impetuous, and down-right wasteful. Until that immediate gratification attitude changes, proposing to demand that everyone in a community voluntarily donates to a fund that would go toward improving the community is a naive thought at best.
The Country didn't get into this condition overnight...it's not going to improve overnight either. Creating communities of like-minded people, building and living green, and educating those who are interested as well as the young folks who are still impressionable will eventually raise the awareness. Ramming it down the throats of those not in the slight bit interested in turning off lights and television when they leave for work is not going to help gain support...it'll build resentment.
Just my 2 cents because you asked for thoughts. And now....PLEASE...back to more practical and hands-on discussions of how to make my little world a safer and more eco-friendly place to live. Thank you,
-Donna
