In response to a book that addresses better ways to save lumber and energy.
That book is "Builder's Guide to Cold Climates" by Joseph Lstiburek. I have

10 Concrete and Excavation

Part III Alternatives to wood frame construction

18 ICF

19 Sips

This is a great book. I go to an energy conference every year in Duluth,
MN. Just returned from one. All the things that should be done, but the
average contractor doesn't care and builds it cheap. I learned no
heating or AC ducts in the floor or the attic. Do you want your basement
to be wet or dry? Wet is just a spray coating of tar. Dry is rigid
insulation, rubber over the wall, detailed drainage at footings, etc., but
it costs more, so very few people will do it.

I am working on house plans (1400sf) to be built this summer. Slab on
grade, FPSF, solar hot water, otherwise very simple, one roof line.

I have an older edition of this book. I'll sell it for $10, includes
shipping. The new edition is $40. Let me know if interested. Thanks
Tom
