wall brackets are a type of scaffolding.  you drill a
3/4 inch hole in the sheething, then insert a bolt
attached to a steel triangle from the outside, the
bolt is also fed through a piece of 2x lumber that
spans the stud cavity, a wingnut holds this all
together.  the bottom of the bracket is resting on the
sheething.  since this point holds alot of weight its
more secure on 5/8" than 1/2"
