That's shocking, Larry. I'm in the same town, and like I said elsewhere
today, my Dad was building 2X6 on 24" centers in 1972. I thought this
was a standard technique now. Sheesh, do these carpenters also still
have to wait for the tubes to warm up before they can listen to their AM
radios? Did they get the memo that brylcream was out of style? Or did
they crawl into a bomb shelter during the A-Bomb scare of 1952 and just
come out? Where have they been for the last 30 years?
Did you talk to Robyn Magner about any of this? He's a dynamite
builder, I wish you'd had a chance to use him.

Just fyi, my recent experience in Columbia, MO, -- the builders I got
bids from were, at best, lukewarm about 2x6 on 24 in. construction. One
of them flat out didn't want to do it, another would have but it clearly
was not his cup of tea. The third guy I decided against him after seeing
some of his work up close. These were all custom builders. So I ended
up with 2x4 on 16, tho I wish I hadn't.
