<Assuming that "IC" means incandescent> IC stands for Insulation Contact. There are also AT (for Air Tight--which should actually be SAT--that is, Somewhat Air Tight) cans out there today. And yes, I do remember those hideous box-outs for pre-IC cans... -AA
