The walled city of Masdar, Abi Dhabi doesn't exist yet, except on paper
and in computer files, but when it is built, it will be the world's
first zero carbon, waste free city. Designed to be the headquarters for
Abu Dhabi's Future Energy Corporation by Norman Foster and Partners,
this 1484 acre city will be powered by various renewable energy sources.
It is being designed with easy access to transit systems, including a
monorail with personalized pod-type cars. What you won't find here is
automobiles. I doesn't look like there'll be much room for them, but
walking will be a comfortable experience.

There will also be a new university "devoted to new ideas for energy
production," special economic zones, a center for innovation, and
numerous green spaces. Outside the walls will be farmland. The intent is
that this city will be self sufficient.

And those walls? Have you ever seen photos of the sand storms in that
part of the world?

Cheers,

Chris Green.
