[Greenbuilding] Alternatives to PVC pipe?...lead free brass plumbing fittings?

Has anyone yet learned of the near term availability (or likely
availability) of lead free brass in plumbing components & faucets? As we've
learned on this list a few months back these will be mandated in CA starting
Jan 1, 2010. But my curiousity is whether this is likely to spill over to
other states, and if so when? Any guesses? Otherwise I'm going to have to
schedule some cross-border plumbing component forays.
