I've tried a Monster Maul and found it to be clumsy and unrefined, even
dangerous for a little tyke like myself.

That's how you win The Woodsplitting Game. Here is how it works. You
and a friend take turns at large and particularly intractable logs.
Each of you bids on a log. "I can split that in 3 whacks" "Well I can
split that in two whacks." Whoever has the lowest bid must try to split
the log. If you bid two whacks, but can split it in one, then you get a
point. More often, it takes three or four whacks because you underbid,
and you get minus points. When the pile of wood is all split, whoever
has the highest score wins the game. I compete pretty well in this game
with a friend that outweighs me by 100 lbs, most of it in his arms. It
is possible to win this game without swinging a single splitter, as you
start out with zero points and your competitor can easily go into the
negative. "Age and cunning beats youth and strength" is another way to
say that. He is actually younger than me, but only by 3 months.
