     Bingo.  I don't scrub.  I rinse 'em out, put a paper bag in them 
and some paper-only shreddings of junk mail in the bottom, and then 
stack them where they can dry out completely.  I have six buckets in 
rotation, so rinsing, getting them completely dry, and having the 
contact surfaces covered with sturdy paper is sufficient for me. 
Seems to work.
