[Greenbuilding] metal roofing/siding.... "green?"

Here's a nice little write-up comparing fiber cement
and vinyl siding:

It doesn't mention metal siding, but I imagine that
the energy intensivity is similar if not worse for
aluminum vs. fiber cement.  I recently saw that there
has been some experimentation with polypropylene
siding, which is good because it's inert (vs. vinyl)
and recyclable.  But I don't think it's ready for
prime time yet quality-wise.

Wood (provided it's FSC-certified or reclaimed) is
still the winner from an energy intensivity/toxicity
standpoint.  Yes, you have to paint it, but you also
have to periodically paint aluminum and hardie.
