I tax myself at 100% on my household fossil fuel consumption.
Every time I pay a bill, I match it into a dedicated savings account
which makes around 5%. That account is sacrosanct: I can only use
it to buy something which will offset energy consumption, like a
solar heat system.
That system is what enabled me to get enough into savings to buy
a bunch of solar collectors, recently. Now I've just gotta get 'em
hooked up.
Once I have a grid-tied inverter and at least one PV panel, I'll
also institute another cast-iron rule: no new electrical appliance
may be purchased without also purchasing the solar capacity to power
it completely.
In that way, I will stabilize my consumption, and then, as I can,
lower it to zero and beyond.
