[Greenbuilding] Green Streets?

one advantage of clay bricks is their longevity. The intersections of the
new bus mall in downtown Portland, Oregon features clay bricks set in sand.
I can't think of a more punishing set of circumstances. Beautiful, made of
something other than concrete or petroleum products, and long lasting. Even
better, you can get to the utilities, tree roots, etc. beneath without
destroying the surface. Unfortunately on that score in our new busmall I
think the bricks set in sand are on top of concrete, but for sidewalks and
most streets this shouldn't be necessary.
Not sure this link is still good, but I found it inspiring.
