MEH,
Actually, I would say it loudly and confidently. I, too, am a graduate
of the fine institution (M.Arch and M.Eng), but if you are looking for
Green building or education in any related field, look somewhere else
and don't waste your money.
I understand the school was known for its building technology in the
70s-early90s, but that is not the case anymore. The program is heavy on
modernist theory and sees sustainability as not critical to the
profession. The question is where a generation of instructors bred on
critical theory to distrust all master narratives is willing to
acknowledge any sea change at all.
I go out of my way because I paid dearly for the choice to go there (out
of state tuition, 4 yrs, moved my wife and lost her job) and now I've
been stuck since; watching the world go by and I feel like I've missed
my opportunity to be a trailblazer in this sea change instead I feel
like I am part of a 'mainstream'. Yeah, yeah yeah,.. There merit in
that too, but had I gone back to school and covered everything I covered
at UofM AND all the green stuff, I would be better off..... Ok, this
could go on forever. If you are on some alumni board or something, feel
free to contact me off the list and we can dialogue some more on the
issue.

Also, as graduate of U of Michigan Architecture and Design School, I
am really curious why anyone would go out of their way to recommend
against attending my such a fine institution.
