Henry Ford tried to buy out Robertson so he could use the screws in his
vehicles and force mechanics to buy the screwdrivers from Ford..
Robertson wasn't interested in selling. Ford then hired an engineer to
design a new screw and the drivers for it. That's the origin of the
Phillips screw.
Or so the story goes.
The reason they are called square headed screws in a lot of places is
because the Robertson name is a trademark and can't be used by other
companies making the screws and bits.
