When I read that I wondered if cheremoya fruit might grow in the Bay
area. A search quickly turned up a pdf from the Rare Fruit Growers group
and it is on there list about "Fruit Growing In The San Fransico Area."
(title of the pdf.)

Hand pollinating the plant with Q-tips might be a bother (although some
varieties don't need this, as I just discovered) , and the fruit
apparently doesn't travel well (bruises really easily or something), but
it might be worth it because, according to a quote from the Oxford
English Dictionary, this is the best tasting fruit in the world. Or at
least one of them. Of course, that's a subjective statement from one
individual, and should be taken for what it's worth. An opinion. I
haven't tried one but the statement intrigued me. I suppose it is
available from some specialty stores or farmers' market somewhere in the
area.
Being the, uh, needy exotic it is, I suspect the price is quite high...
Cheers,
Chris Green.
