     Base 12 is an awfully good starting point for anything you're 
going to be dividing evenly, and if you really want to step back, 
it's a pity that Western civilization didn't settle on a base 12 
system for counting, and therefore mathematics generally (which some 
other cultures, fast disappearing, have done).
