Once, during one of my earliest "for pay" jobs, I was told by my boss
to perform some minor operation on a framing job involving a hammer
and something needing to be driven out of the way (I forget what).

Since I was in proud possesion of a new framing hammer and wanting to
do a good job (and because whatever it was I was asked to do, was
awkward), I asked him "what part of the hammer" to hit it with.

His instant and short reply was, "Any part of it," probably one of the
most useful instructions I have ever received from any superior.
