Hello ,

How about this for a good performing clay brick (cut and paste the
link if it wraps) :
http://www.wienerberger.de/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Wienerberger/SR_Product/ProductStandard05&cid=1136996239211&c=SR_Product&sl=wb_de_home_de

Wienerberger POROTON-T 8 - 42,5 cm = 16.72 inches wide
U value = 0.18W/m2.K

I think thats U=0.032 Btu/ft²·°F·h or R=31.54 ft²·°F·h/Btu.

Its filled with perlite and normally rendered (plastered with a
gypsum plaster inside and preferably a lime and sand render outside (less
embodied energy than cement and normally not made with toxic waste
liquids used as a fuel, and problematic emissions. It uses a
cellulosic mortier/glue about 1mm (0.04 inches) thick for the
horizontal joint between couses. The vertical joint is not glued.

There are a whole lot of German brick fabricants who now make similar
bricks for very low energy buildings a la passivhaus standard
buildings.

PS next post on some high performance prefab timber assemblies.
