Hello list members:
I hope someone can give me some informed opinions about insulation here. I've checked the archives but
couldn't find what I was looking for.
I'm sure at one time, many of you were enthusiastic about icynene. That's the blue foam, right?
The person I've consulted about this job likes polyurethane, and from what I can see it does have much
better numbers.
The situation is, the 2nd floor ceiling has been 'cathedraled', and I don't know what's in there, but there
can't be room for much.
The roofer put a couple more vents on last year when I had the roof done, and I asked him to lift the deck
and look, but he "forgot".
The room is stiflingly hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.
I want to have the upstairs rewired if I can afford it this year, and when that's done, I can probably get an
idea of what's up in there.
Then I'd like to just put some 2x4s fixed to the existing ceiling, foam it and put a new ceiling over that.
Is there something(s) in particular that I should be looking for inside the existing ceiling to make this work?
Which foam would be best, do you think, and why?
*Will* that plan work OK? I've been told it will, but my experience with contractors has led me to distrust
every word they say, unfortunately.
Any ideas, advice or thoughts gratefully received,
~marilyn
