[Greenbuilding] Carbon offset - pay to airline while buying tickets

A donation to Rainforest Relief would be a more
effective carbon offset for the money! Given that
we're pretty much all-volunteer, with an annual
budget of about $12,000 and having stopped the
use of more tropical wood in the US than any
group in history, the acres spared vs. dollars
spent is enormous! : )
While we have major complaints about the plan,
NYC just announced their plan to reduce reliance
on tropical hardwoods, after 13 years of our
campaigning. The 'immediate' 20% reduction comes
from the Parks Dept. removing tropical woods from
new bench specifications - a sparing of 90,000
linear feet of tropical wood (mostly ipê) per
year. They've also committed to no new boardwalks
designed with tropical woods.
However, we've learned (from the plan itself)
that Sanitation has designed two marine transfer
stations with greenheart. We will now do battle
yet again to stop these from being built as
designed.
Support would be money well-spent - and carbon emissions well-spared.
