[Greenbuilding] [Fwd: CFL bulbs]

I've had running debates on whether fiber optics should be considered
an energy saving technology or not. The fiber optic tubes are not, in
themselves, light sources; they are just transmitters. So it seems to
me that the energy efficiency lies in the light source (daylight or
metal halide or whatever) and how the light is dispersed by the fiber optics.
A fiber optic system, it seems to me, with a halogen or (egads) an
incandescent light source, is still an inefficient light source.
