There are different types of dimmers (and all bulbs don't work with all
dimmers). Old style rheostat dimmers don't change energy use (and could
increase it). New style dimmers (I think they're pulse modulating) do
reduce energy use. You'd probably have to put a Kill-o-watt meter on to
see the difference.
